Registered Sex Offenders
Tip! When the police tell you the consequences of a crime they intend to charge you with, or that they can lower the charge, don't believe anything they say. They can and will lie to you to get you to talk so they can make an arrest.
I moved into a new neighborhood exactly one year ago. My husband and I have an amazingly beautiful little girl who is now three years old. Since becoming a parent, I have become aware of and so much more sensitive to many things. One topic that has me greatly concerned is the laws that surround registered sex offenders. My state isn't exactly lax to those who have done wrong, but they certainly need to become much stricter. Before I showed up for my closing and signed my name a million times, I needed to do some research. I promised my daughter on the day that she entered the world, that I would always keep her safe. To me, keeping her safe entailed knowing if there were any registered sex offenders in the neighborhood that I was moving into. So, I found my state's website that had the names and photos of all of the registered sex offenders. I scoured my area and was absolutely appalled to learn that more people are on that list than what I would have ever guessed. There were more names than I even cared to see. I tried to memorize the names and faces of the registered sex offenders that could be roaming my nearby streets in case I ever crossed their paths.
Tip! To fine companies for the actual costs imposed on others by a crime is appropriate. We have to clean up toxic messes, and in other cases compensate those who suffer damages.
As sad as it seems or as judgmental as you may think, many people check into where the registered sex offenders are nowadays. Quite honestly, we owe it to ourselves and our children to know who they should be aware of. I teach my daughter to be weary of any and all strangers but sadly enough, most children who experience sexual abuse claim that it is someone they trusted. That means that the strangers on the streets who may or may not be registered sex offenders are not always the bad guys. It can occur in our own homes. I hate to raise my daughter to trust no one but I'm wondering lately if that's not such a bad idea.
Tip! Low tech crime fighting also makes a lot of sense such as the Presidents Initiative on Neighborhood Watch Programs or the undercover work from local police departments.
The tragic stories lately of innocent and beautiful children being abducted and killed by registered sex offenders has forced our country to sit up and take a look at this serious issue. Registered sex offenders cannot just be allowed to roam the streets without people knowing what they did. If someone moves into my neighborhood who I may find on that website one day, and I wasn't aware of it, I will be more than a little bit upset. Society needs to help push more laws through our government to make life more miserable for those who have wronged others in a sexual manner. We need to protect our children from registered sex offenders who prey upon our children. I urge you to take a look at your state's list of registered sex offenders. Be aware of who may be lurking around that needs to be approached more cautiously. Taking a few moments to look at those sites just may be saving someone from a horrible tragedy.
